American Soldier

A) I believe the most powerful photo was of them taking cover by the broken car.  It gives the sense that things are getting intense now.

B)  They are strung together over time thus giving them meaning.

C)  They tell the full story of the photo.  They also help string together the photos into a timeline.

D)  Ian joined the military and went into basic training.  He sustained several injuries and exhausting experiences but made it through.  He went into war training and became a drug user.  he confronted his sergeants about it and they didn't kick him out.  Ian later went to Iraq for a year and when he returned, he got married.

E)  They are written in present-tense.

F)  They are around 2-3 sentences,  They explain who is in the picture, they tell the main story of the photo, the third sentence goes into more detail, several captions include quotes, there are a few that have four sentences.

G)  The emotion in the photo and the order they're told in allows this.

H)  Because you need more details than just pictures and captions.
